ESSAY CONTEST
Congratulations to the winner of our contest, Matt Stachkunas
Nominated by granddaughter Annie Stair
My special senior citizen would be my grandfather Matt. He has lived with us for three years and has been the greatest asset. He decided to live with us in the fall of 2007, he jumped right into our busy household and began helping around the house. Not to mention he was the only person that would take on our four year old twin boys so we could have a dinner our occasionally. He became an instant hit in the household and my boys adore there great grandfather. He really stepped up to the plate in Jan 2008 when I was diagnosed with breast cancer. When my treatment began I chose to work as much as I could, as I am a Radiation Oncology Nurse. Unfortunately this took all of my energy which left nothing for my home life. My grandfather took it upon himself to begin all of my daily chores from sweeping, mopping, dishes and even laundry. Although I have been out of therapy for almost 2 years and cancer free:) he continues to do most of my everyday things without me ever asking. He loves doing things around the house it keeps him on his toes, and I like having a shopping partner. It is also a great experience that my boys get the chance to really know their great grandpa and my husband loves all of the old family stories. He has been a god sent to our family in our time of need, and now we need him just as much as he needs us.
